Thoughts, tips, and and helpful info for the one man IT shop.

Malware!

I'm really starting to loathe the latest surge of malware infestations I've be dealing with. It seems like every few months a new round gets turned loose on the web and the same people get infected every time. Though I have to say, the way this recent rash marks all the programs and and user files hidden is a pretty good scare tactic for average users who are afraid they have lost everything. If only the people that come up with this stuff would use their talents for something useful...............

IT can be dangerous work........

Today I was working in the new addition to our office building at work. I needed to move some data and voice network drops in some of the offices and have been trying to get it done before people start moving into them. I was the only one in the new section, working alone, standing on the top step of a 6 foot step ladder (not too bright, eh?) pulling some cable in the drop ceiling.

Been a while.......

Wow, can't believe its been over 2 months since I posted an update. Well lets see, I never did finish the hundred pushup challenge. I just couldn't hang with it when I got to week 4. But I must say I can still do 50 reps without stopping and its been 2 months since I stopped the program so I did make some nice gains from it. Anyway I look forward to getting back into posting updates again, and am probably going to redo this site in the very near future.

Hundred Pushups Update Wk3 done

I finished week 3 of the hundred pushups challenge Friday night, and I'm feeling quite sore from it today. Week 3 definitely takes the difficulty level up a couple notches, and from the looks of week 4 its not going to get any easier. I'm starting to feel like I need a little more recovery time between workouts, I definitely don't recuperate as quick now as I did when I was younger. Hoping week 4 goes well.

Hundred Pushups update Wk2 day 3

Saturday night I completed week 2 of the Hundred Pushups Challenge. I don't know if I was just tired or what but it was definitely the hardest workout yet, the others I had been able to pretty much breeze through, but I had to really put out to finish that one. I was starting to get a little shaky but I still manage to get 25 reps on the last set, which required a minimum of 20. Anyway, looking forward to doing my exhaustion test tonight to see how many reps I've gained so far.

Hundred Pushups update

Last night I completed Week 2 Day one. So far the workouts have gone very well for me despite having to deal with a herniated disc in my lower back, tonsillitis and a good bout springtime allergies, I've been able to finish all the workouts without much trouble. I'm not having excessive muscle soreness following the workouts, but its enough that I do notice it the following day, though it has lessened the last couple workouts.

Inexpensive New Windows Server Version

Microsoft has recently announced Windows Server 2008 Foundation, a new entry level version of its server product line. Its aimed at small businesses with 15 or fewer users and will be sold only with new entry level servers. Looks like its not available for download through Microsofts Technet Plus website yet, but as soon as it is I plan on downloading it and giving it a try. Paul Thurrott has article about it Windows IT Pro magazines website here http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/101806/microsoft-announces-ine...

HP ML350 G5 BSOD fix

I was having a terrible time with an HP ML350 G5 server running W2k3 server 64bit blue screening at work. This was like the third time it had had this problem. I had managed to resolve it in the past by googling the bsod error codes and finding driver updates and a couple of hotfixes from microsoft. The other times it would only blue screen a couple times a month usually while running backups, but this time it was happening several times a week and at the time I had alot going on and it was a few days and several bsod's before I had a chance to really look at it to see what was doing on.

Hundred Pushups update

I was planning to start the actual workouts on Monday, but last night I had some energy I needed to burn off so decided to go ahead and start, I think I will be able to go through the first 2 weeks pretty easily and be able to do another workout this week and 4 next week to get on the Mon.-Wed.-Fri. schedule starting week 3. Anyway lastnights workout went great and I was able to 25 pushups on the 5th set which required a minimum of 9. Actually looking forward to "Day 2 Week 1"!
